PM Karki Urges Election to Be a Campaign for Integrity

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged citizens and political stakeholders to approach the upcoming election as a nationwide campaign for integrity. Speaking at an event marking the Anti-Corruption Commission’s establishment anniversary in Kathmandu, she stressed the importance of promoting honesty and accountability in public service.

She highlighted that the election should serve as a platform to elect members of the House of Representatives who have a clean image and a clear commitment against corruption. According to her, such a mandate would help build a representative body dedicated to transparency and ethical governance.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the government formed after the election, backed by a fresh mandate, will further strengthen good governance and take additional steps to control corruption, in line with the principles of the Jana Jagaran (public awakening) movement.

While Nepal has sufficient structures, legal frameworks, and policies for combating corruption, Karki noted that the primary responsibility for implementing reforms lies with the government and the executive branch. She emphasized that relying solely on independent bodies without executive support cannot bring the desired changes.

Karki also stressed that the current government, formed under the spirit of the Jana Jagaran movement, has prioritized citizen-friendly administration, corruption control, and comprehensive governance reforms. She underscored that these efforts are being advanced systematically to ensure tangible improvements in public administration.

The Prime Minister added that a roadmap for good governance is in its final stages of preparation, designed to guide the next government in continuing reforms and ensuring effective, transparent, and accountable administration across the country.
