RARE BLACK PANTHER SPOTTED IN ILAM

A rare black panther was seen in Suryaodaya Municipality-2, Bagavire, Ilam, on Monday morning. This is the first recorded sighting of such an animal in the district. Locals were shocked to find the wild cat preying on their livestock.

According to Raju Ghimire, President of Laligurans Village Development Committee, the panther killed two female goats and one male goat inside a shed. In the past month alone, seven goats have been killed in the area, raising concern among villagers.

The Division Forest Office worked with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation to take immediate action. A special rescue team was sent from Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Sunsari, to safely capture the animal and prevent further attacks.

Wildlife experts say animals like leopards and bears are increasingly crossing into Nepal from India’s Singalila National Park. This movement has been causing loss of livestock and crops in northeastern villages, creating fear and tension among local communities.
