Armed Police Guard India–China Border Amid Snowfall

Despite extreme cold and heavy snowfall, the Armed Police Force Nepal (APF) continues to carry out border security duties in the Himalayan region of Darchula along the India–China frontier. Security personnel stationed in the snow-covered Chhangru area remain actively engaged in patrols despite harsh weather and difficult terrain.
The 50th Gulm of the Armed Police Force was formally established in Chhangru in May 2020 following the government’s decision after issuing the updated political map that includes Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura. Since then, APF has expanded its security presence in this strategically sensitive border region.
Currently, APF deployment stretches from Lekam Rural Municipality–3 in Lali to Byas Rural Municipality–1, covering multiple border points adjoining India and China. Darchula shares a 198-kilometer border with India and a 75-kilometer border with China, making the area highly sensitive from a security perspective.
According to the 44th Battalion, security units have been mobilized to monitor all major border crossings. Despite geographical challenges, limited infrastructure, and severe weather conditions, the Armed Police Force Nepal continues to safeguard the country’s borders from the plains to the high Himalayas.
