Kulman Orders Removal of Abandoned Vehicles Along Bagmati River
Kulman Ghising Launches Cleanup Drive: Abandoned Vehicles and Waste Being Cleared Along Bagmati River
The long-neglected banks of the Bagmati River, stretching from Guhyeshwari to Gokarneshwar, are finally seeing action as authorities begin removing abandoned vehicles and accumulated waste. On Tuesday, vehicles near the police post at Jammudanda in Gokarneshwar Municipality-5 were cleared, marking the first step in a broader cleanup effort.
The initiative follows a recent site inspection by Kulman Ghising, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development. During the inspection, he directed officials to immediately remove all abandoned vehicles along the river corridor and to ensure proper drainage management to prevent further pollution.
Authorities noted that a 120-meter-long drainage blockage at Jammudanda had caused untreated wastewater to flow directly into the Bagmati River, damaging the road and posing environmental hazards. Repair work on the drainage system is already underway to restore functionality and prevent future contamination.
Beyond vehicle removal, the cleanup drive will also tackle sand, debris, and accumulated waste along the upper banks of Guhyeshwari. The empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee is coordinating the efforts, ensuring that the river corridor is restored not only for environmental reasons but also to improve public safety and urban aesthetics.
Residents and environmentalists have welcomed the initiative, highlighting the urgent need to maintain the Bagmati River, which has long suffered from pollution, encroachment, and neglect. With sustained efforts, authorities hope to transform the riverbanks into a cleaner and safer environment for both the community and the city’s ecosystem.
