Nepal Army to be Deployed from Wednesday for Election Security

For the House of Representatives election scheduled on 21 Falgun, the Nepal Army will be deployed from Wednesday (21 Magh) as part of the pre-election security plan.

  • 79,727 Nepal Army personnel will be mobilized nationwide.

  • The army will conduct field patrols, including joint patrols in sensitive and highly sensitive areas.

  • The army will work in the third security layer, coordinating with the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.

Air Security & Helicopters

  • The army will carry out aerial patrols, especially in remote and highly sensitive areas.

  • Standby helicopters will be placed in Surkhet, Pokhara, Kathmandu, Biratnagar, and Itahari.

  • Helicopters will be used for ballot box transport during and after the election, especially where roads are not accessible.

Bomb Disposal Teams

  • Bomb disposal teams have been deployed at highly sensitive polling stations to handle explosives or hoax threats.

Security of Key Places

  • The Nepal Army will secure airports, prisons, Singha Durbar, and other vital installations, as police forces focus on election duties.

Total Security Personnel

  • More than 3.3 lakh security personnel will be deployed in total:

    • Nepal Army: 79,727

    • Nepal Police: 75,597

    • Armed Police Force: 34,576

    • Additional election police and intelligence personnel included

Highly Sensitive Polling Stations

  • There are 3,680 highly sensitive polling stations nationwide.

  • Madhesh Province is considered the most challenging, with 1,246 highly sensitive stations.

Overall, the government says full preparations are complete, and security will be maintained before, during, and after the election.
