Election Commission Allows Domestic and International Flights on Polling Day
The Election Commission has decided to allow both domestic and international flights to operate as usual on the day of the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21, departing from the earlier practice of suspending internal flights during elections.
The Election Commission of Nepal has decided to allow uninterrupted operation of both domestic and international flights on the day of the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21. The decision was taken as part of broader measures aimed at ensuring election security and facilitating the voting process.
Informing the Ministry of Home Affairs through an official letter, the Commission requested the creation of a conducive environment to keep air services running smoothly on polling day. Accordingly, passengers holding tickets for domestic or international flights will be allowed to travel between airports and their homes or hotels using private vehicles or transport provided by the respective airlines.
In previous elections, domestic flights were usually suspended on polling day, and based on that practice, the Nepal Tourism Board had also issued travel advisories. However, the latest decision marks a shift in policy, aiming to minimize disruption to travel while maintaining necessary election security arrangements.
