Nepali Army Airlifts Election Materials to Snowbound Humla Polling Sites
Heavy snowfall has blocked road access to northern Namkha Rural Municipality, creating challenges for the upcoming Falgun 21 House of Representatives election. To ensure smooth voting, the Nepali Army airlifted election materials and staff to four remote polling sites.
Road access to Nyalule Lake (5,200 meters) in Ward 6 and Nara Lake (4,949 meters) in Ward 5 was cut off due to heavy snow. This made it impossible for election staff to reach the polling centers using conventional transport.
In response, the army deployed helicopters to transport both personnel and essential materials. The operation ensured that all four polling sites received ballot boxes, election documents, and trained staff on time, preventing delays in the election process.
Chief Election Officer Nilkantha Baral confirmed that election materials and staff were delivered to Namkha Ward 6’s Himshikhar Primary School, Sunkhani Basic School in Halji, and Bhrikuti Basic School, allowing voting to proceed safely and efficiently despite the harsh winter conditions.
