Election Commission Bans Fundraising Through Personal Bank Accounts
Nepal’s Election Commission has prohibited candidates and political parties from collecting donations through personal bank accounts. All election-related fundraising must now be conducted via officially approved election-purpose bank accounts to ensure transparency and accountability.
The Election Commission of Nepal has introduced a new regulation prohibiting candidates and political parties from raising funds through their personal bank accounts during elections. Instead, all donations and financial transactions must be carried out through bank accounts specifically opened for election purposes with the Commission’s approval.
The move aims to enhance transparency, prevent misuse of funds, and ensure fair electoral practices. These election-purpose accounts will remain under the direct supervision of election monitoring officials, who are authorized to halt transactions if violations of election laws or the code of conduct are detected.
According to the Commission, cash transactions are strictly banned, and candidates must adhere to the officially set spending limits. All election-related accounts must be closed within 35 days after the election, while banks are required to retain account records for six years for regulatory review.
