66 Complaints Filed for Election Code Violations, 32 Responded with Clarifications

The Central Election Code Monitoring Committee in Nepal has received 66 complaints alleging violations of the election code of conduct, the Election Commission reported. Of these, 32 have already submitted clarifications in response to the inquiries sent by the commission.

The complaints involve political parties, candidates, government and non-government institutions, media outlets, and journalists accused of violating the code of conduct. For registered media and affiliated journalists, the Commission has forwarded cases to the Press Council Nepal for further clarification and action.

At the district level, complaints have also been received and necessary actions are being taken. The Election Commission emphasized that all complaints are being reviewed thoroughly, and legal procedures are being followed to minimize violations and enforce effective compliance.

Legal Officer Mohanraj Joshi stated that the 32 responses are currently under review. To ensure effective implementation of the code, the Central and District Election Code Monitoring Committees, along with district officers, are actively monitoring compliance.

According to the Election Code, 2082 (2025), all 77 districts have designated assistant chief district officers for non-financial monitoring and chief or co-finance controllers for financial matters. These officials ensure that relevant stakeholders are informed about the code and commit to following it.

District-level investigations involve sending clarification requests to respondents and taking legal action against proven violations, ensuring accountability and transparency in the election process.
