Cash-Burning Rumor Is Fake
Former Foreign Minister and Nepali Congress leader Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has strongly denied the rumor that large amounts of cash were burned inside her Budhanilkantha residence during the arson incident on Bhadra 24.
In her written response submitted to the Supreme Court, she said the claims circulated by several media outlets and social media users were completely false and meant to mislead the public. She argued that neither she nor her husband, Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, had any such cash stored at the house.
Dr. Deuba added that the government and concerned authorities had already inspected the site, prepared an official damage report, and nowhere did it mention any cash being found or burned. According to her, the accusations were baseless, fabricated, and politically motivated.
The case against her is part of a larger petition demanding action against members of the National Security Council (NSC) for failing to hold a timely meeting and not mobilizing the army during the nationwide unrest.
Responding to this, Deuba said that during what had been a peaceful protest, unruly individuals forcefully entered their private residence, physically attacked her, and set the house on fire, leaving both her and Sher Bahadur Deuba injured.
She requested the Supreme Court to dismiss the petition, calling it prejudiced, speculative, and based entirely on misinformation.
