Drug Abuse In Rise

A 29 year old man attacked two police personnel and a rehabilitation center staff member with a knife in Biratnagar on Sunday afternoon while being prepared for transfer to a rehabilitation facility in Kathmandu.

The accused, identified as Rubina Karki of Ramechhap, currently residing in Ward No. 1 of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, was living in a rented room. According to the police, arrangements had been made to send him to a rehabilitation center named Saathibhai Nepal in Kathmandu. The incident escalated after Karki reportedly locked himself inside his room and attempted suicide. Following the alert from family members, a team from CRV Bhattachowk police and rehabilitation center staff reached the location to counsel him and bring him out safely. However, the situation turned violent during the rescue attempt.

According to Morang District Police spokesperson DSP Makendra Kumar Mishra, Karki suddenly pulled out a knife he had hidden in his bed and attacked Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhojraj Regmi, police constable Himal Ghimire, and rehabilitation staff member Santosh Sapkota. All three sustained injuries to their heads.

The injured were immediately taken to Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar for treatment. Police have stated that their condition is stable. Following the attack, police managed to control and arrest the suspect on the spot. Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident and the mental state of the accused at the time.
