Prachanda strongly criticizes govt over social media ban

Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has strongly criticized the government’s decision to ban social media platforms in Nepal.

He said the ban is not only unconstitutional and undemocratic but also goes against the interests of the people. According to him, the decision misinterprets the Supreme Court’s order regarding legal arrangements for social media regulation.

Prachanda also warned that the ban would make  communication difficult for millions of Nepali migrant workers abroad and their families back home, who rely heavily on these platforms.

He stressed that his party supports regulation of social media, but not control or shutdowns. He described the government’s move as “a highly objectionable step.”
