Chitwan Election Highlights: Female Voter Majority, Male Candidates Dominate

Chitwan district has three electoral constituencies, each showing a higher number of female voters than male voters, yet male candidates dominate the races. In Constituency 1, there are 149,621 total voters, with 75,860 women and 73,761 men. This area has 18 candidates, of which 16 are men and only 2 are women. Major contenders include Dawa Dorje Lama from CPN-UML, Rajendra Prasad Burlakoti from Nepali Congress, Krishna Raj Pant from the Nepali Communist Party, and Hari Dhakal from Rastriya Swatantra Party, along with several other party and independent candidates.

In Constituency 2, there are 137,152 voters (69,294 women and 67,857 men) and 23 candidates, 16 men and 7 women. Key candidates include Asmin Ghimire from CPN-UML, Mina Kumari Kharel from Nepali Congress, Ravi Lamichhane from Rastriya Swatantra Party, and other party and independent candidates. Similarly, Constituency 3 has 155,309 voters (79,612 women and 75,696 men) and 23 candidates, with 14 men and 9 women. Prominent candidates here include Shankar Raj Thapliya from CPN-UML, Tek Prasad Gurung from Nepali Congress, Renu Dahal from Nepali Communist Party, and Sobita Gautam from Rastriya Swatantra Party, along with other party and independent candidates.

Despite women being the majority of voters in all three constituencies, male candidates significantly outnumber female candidates, highlighting a gender gap in political representation. The elections feature a wide variety of parties and independent candidates, reflecting Nepal’s vibrant multi-party democracy and the active participation of diverse political actors.
