Ujyalo Nepal Party Manifesto Proposes Directly Elected Chief Minister, Cuts in Legislature Size

The Ujyalo Nepal Party has made public its election manifesto with a strong emphasis on good governance, economic prosperity, and social justice. The manifesto was unveiled during a press conference held in Kathmandu on Sunday by party chairperson Kulman Ghising.

One of the key proposals in the manifesto is a significant reduction in the number of members in the House of Representatives. The party has proposed cutting the number of lawmakers from the current 275 to 201, stating that the move would help reduce the financial burden on the state and make governance more efficient.

Similarly, the manifesto proposes reducing the size of provincial assemblies from 550 members to 330. To ensure political stability at the provincial level, the party has introduced the concept of a directly elected Chief Minister, arguing that this system would lead to more stable and accountable provincial governments.

The manifesto also outlines plans to downsize the executive branch. According to the proposal, the federal government would be limited to 15 ministers, while provincial governments would consist of a maximum of seven ministers. The party has also committed to eliminating the positions of state ministers and assistant ministers to further curb unnecessary government spending.

Chairperson Ghising stated that the party aims to limit federal ministries to 15 and provincial ministries to between five and seven, while completely removing state and assistant minister positions. He added that the party is committed to publishing an annual public progress report detailing the implementation status of its election promises after forming the government.

In addition to governance reforms, the manifesto places strong emphasis on economic strengthening and job creation. The party has pledged to promote the mobilization of domestic capital to boost the national economy and create employment opportunities within the country.
