US Cancels Over 6,000 Student Visas Amid Law Violations and Security Concerns

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. State Department has cancelled more than 6,000 visas of foreign students, citing violations of U.S. laws, overstaying visas, or links to criminal activities. The majority—around 4,000—were connected to offenses such as fighting, drunk driving, robbery, and other legal violations. Additionally, 200–300 visas were cancelled due to suspected links to terrorism, with some reports suggesting that students who participated in protests supporting Palestine may have been affected. This action comes under the Trump administration’s strict immigration policies. Earlier this year, visa appointments for international students were temporarily suspended. When they resumed in June, applicants were required to make their social media accounts public as part of enhanced screening measures. Authorities say the cancellations are intended to uphold national security and immigration laws, but critics warn that these measures may discourage foreign students from coming to the U.S., potentially affecting academic exchange and international collaboration.
