Third International Buddhist Conference to Be Held in Lumb

The third International Buddhist Conference will be held in Lumbini on May 29 and 30, as decided by the Lumbini Development Trust. The decision was taken during a council meeting held in Butwal with the objective of promoting Lumbini at the international level and increasing tourist arrivals.

The meeting was chaired by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chairperson of the Lumbini Development Trust, Anil Kumar Sinha. The council also approved the formation of a 10-member main organizing committee under the coordination of Trust Vice-Chairperson Dr. Lharkyal Lama.

The government has allocated Rs 30 million in the current fiscal year for organizing the conference. Previously scheduled for November, the event was rescheduled due to political and structural changes and will now be held in conjunction with the 2570th Buddha Jayanti.

According to Dr. Lama, the conference aims to promote world peace through Buddhist teachings while spreading values of compassion, harmony, and global brotherhood. The event is expected to witness participation from Buddhist scholars, spiritual leaders, and distinguished guests from more than 60 countries.

The two-day conference will include discussions and presentations on Lumbini as the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Kapilvastu and other Buddha-related heritage sites, environmental issues in the Lumbini area, global Buddhist heritage, and Buddhist education and culture. The Lumbini Development Trust stated that previous editions of the conference made significant contributions to Nepal’s religious, cultural, and tourism sectors.
