Security tightened in the Valley after the arrest of Durga Prasai.

2 Mangsir, Kathmandu — Security in the Kathmandu Valley has been significantly heightened after Durga Prasai, coordinator of the “Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens Protection Mega Campaign,” was arrested late on Monday night. Authorities have taken precautionary measures amid concerns that Prasai’s supporters and members of the Nagarik Bachau Dal may organize protests in response to his detention.

The Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, directed all three District Police Ranges to reinforce security across the Valley. As a result, a strong police presence has been deployed at key roads, intersections, and public spaces to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.

Prasai was taken into custody from his residence in Bhaktapur late Monday night. Following the arrest, Prem Kumar Thamsuhang, General Secretary of the Nagarik Bachau Dal, announced that his organization would stage a protest today, prompting the authorities to adopt stricter security measures.

Prior to his arrest, Prasai had announced plans to lead a nationwide protest on Mangsir 7 and had been actively preparing for the movement. However, the police, in coordination with the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku and the Kathmandu District Police Range, detained him before the protest could take place.

Currently, Prasai is being held at the Bhadrakali detention facility. The police have stated that they will present him in court today to seek remand, which will allow them to conduct further investigation into his activities.

Authorities have emphasized that these security measures are temporary but necessary to ensure the safety of citizens and to prevent any disruption to public order in the Valley. They also urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

This development has drawn widespread attention, with political observers noting that Prasai’s arrest comes at a critical time, as nationwide protests had the potential to impact public safety and political stability.
