Seven Ministers Submit Asset Declarations, Three Still Pending
Seven out of ten ministers in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, formed following the GenZ movement, have submitted their asset declarations. Three ministers are yet to submit theirs.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM), asset declarations from the seven members have been received.
Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was appointed Prime Minister on 27 Bhadra. On 30 Bhadra, she appointed three ministers: former Finance Secretary Rameshwar Khanal became Finance Minister; former Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Kulman Ghising was appointed Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development; and advocate Om Prakash Aryal became Home Minister.
It has been 61 days since these three ministers took office (2 days in Bhadra, 31 days in Ashoj, and 18 days in Kartik). Among them, Home Minister Aryal and Finance Minister Khanal have submitted their asset declarations to the OPMCM, but Energy Minister Ghising has not.
In the second phase, on 6 Ashoj, four more ministers were appointed: Anil Kumar Sinha as Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation; Mahavir Pun as Minister for Education, Science and Technology; Madan Prasad Pariyar as Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development; and Jagdish Kharel as Minister for Communication and Information Technology.
It has been 54 days since these four ministers took office (26 days in Ashoj and 28 days in Kartik). Among them, Communication Minister Kharel has yet to submit his asset declaration.
The cabinet was expanded for the third time on 9 Kartik, with former Health Secretary Sudha Sharma Gautam appointed as Minister for Health and Population, and Bablu Gupta as Minister for Youth and Sports. Among them, Sports Minister Gupta has submitted his asset declaration, while Health Minister Gautam’s submission is still pending.
Hemraj Aryal, Joint Secretary at the OPMCM, stated that the process of receiving asset declarations from all cabinet members is ongoing.
