No Election Excitement in Bajura Villages

With the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21, voter enthusiasm in Bajura’s villages remains low. Eight candidates, including one independent, are contesting but the lack of interest among voters shows that even new promises are failing to capture attention.

Bajura, one of Nepal’s most remote districts, has long seen grand promises during elections, but small local needs often remain unfulfilled. Candidates are once again pledging roads, jobs, and development, yet many young people have left the villages in search of employment, and students have moved to cities, reducing voter turnout in rural areas.

Local leader Dayaram Pandit said, “Since young people are no longer in the villages, there is little election atmosphere. Leaders repeating old promises fail to excite voters.” Sher Bahadur Raut of Khaptad Khededah Rural Municipality added, “With so few people left in the villages, there is hardly any enthusiasm for voting.”

Road access, healthcare, and employment remain the primary concerns of villagers. In Triveni Municipality-5, Kimni still has no road access, yet candidates continue to offer the same promises as in previous elections. Many locals doubt whether the upcoming election will change their living conditions or the district’s development.
