Kathmandu Scores Lowest in Metropolitan City Rankings
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has ranked the lowest among Nepal’s metropolitan cities, scoring only 44.97% in the latest evaluation conducted by the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission. The assessment evaluates local governance, financial management, and service delivery across key sectors.
Evaluation Method: The Fiscal Commission’s assessment uses 17 indicators, including budget execution, revenue mobilization, audit compliance, education, and health outcomes. The indicators provide a comprehensive picture of each city’s administrative and financial performance.
Top Performers: Biratnagar Metropolitan City led the rankings with 78.11%, followed by Lalitpur Metropolitan City with 76.33%. These cities outperformed Kathmandu in most indicators, demonstrating stronger governance, better financial efficiency, and improved service delivery.
Kathmandu’s Challenges: The low score for Kathmandu highlights persistent issues in budget management, revenue collection, and public service delivery. Experts say improving transparency, audit compliance, and efficient resource utilization is essential for Kathmandu to meet the standards of other major cities.
