Election Commission Says Citizens’ Confidential Information Has Not Been Leaked, Remains Secure

2 Mangsir, Kathmandu: The Election Commission has assured the public that its systems related to the voter registry are fully secure and that no confidential citizen information has been leaked.

This clarification comes after claims circulated on social media alleging unauthorized access to voter information. The Commission expressed serious concern over these posts and emphasized that its information systems are closely monitored and well-protected. According to a press release issued on Tuesday, the Commission is fully committed to safeguarding citizens’ confidential information in accordance with legal requirements.

“No unauthorized individual has gained access to sensitive voter data,” the Commission stated. Election Commission IT experts continually monitor the system, conduct security risk assessments, and implement all necessary measures to ensure the integrity and safety of the information. Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Election Commission, confirmed that these measures are in place to maintain the security of the electoral database at all times.

The Commission also addressed the PDF files shared on social media, which were claimed to have been obtained from its systems. It clarified that these files contain only general information that was legally made available in the past to election offices and political parties for electoral purposes. At no point has any legally protected or confidential citizen data been accessed or leaked.

The Election Commission has urged the public, political stakeholders, and media outlets not to give credence to unverified or misleading information circulating online. Such claims, the Commission said, could cause unnecessary panic and undermine trust in the electoral system.

“With the general elections approaching, we emphasize the importance of accurate information and urge everyone to rely only on official announcements from the Commission,” the statement read. The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all citizen data remains confidential, secure, and legally protected throughout the electoral process.
