Curfew Imposed Inside Tribhuvan International Airport
The District Administration Office of Kathmandu has imposed a curfew inside Tribhuvan International Airport following announcements by certain groups and political parties to hold protests in that area on Falgun 1.
The curfew, effective from Thursday for a duration of one month, prohibits gatherings of more than five people for activities such as sit ins, demonstrations, rallies, or any form of public assembly within the airport premises. This includes all internal roads, the domestic and international terminal areas, parking zones, and surrounding airport grounds.
Chief District Officer Ishwar Raj Paudel explained that the curfew has been imposed to maintain safety and order in one of the country’s most sensitive locations. He emphasized that gatherings of more than five people inside the airport could lead to unrest, property damage, or even fire hazards due to large crowds, and such risks must be prevented in advance.
The order further clarifies that while the curfew applies strictly to the airport premises and surrounding areas, citizens retain their constitutional right to peacefully assemble, express opinions, and conduct protests in other public spaces outside the restricted zone, provided they do so without weapons or violent behavior.
Authorities also issued a warning that organizers of any protests within or outside the restricted areas that result in damage to government, public or private property will be held fully accountable, and compensation for such damages will be recovered from them as per the law.
