Shrinkhala Khatiwada Speaks Out on ‘Nepo Baby’ Trend
Shrinkhala Khatiwada denied luxury claims, saying she lived simply before Miss Nepal and her parents sold property for her education.

Former Miss Nepal Shrinkhala Khatiwada has openly responded on social media to the ongoing ‘Nepo Baby’ trend and the Instagram “unfollow campaign.” Through two long Instagram videos, she tried to clarify and deny accusations made against her.
Acknowledging the voice of the Gen Z anti-corruption movement, Shrinkhala said she respected the people’s demand for accountability but stressed that she was wrongly portrayed as a symbol of privilege. “Before Miss Nepal, I had no luxurious life. I was just a simple girl living a simple life,” she said.
She explained that her lifestyle, education, food, and activities have always been publicly visible on Instagram. “The schools I attended, the way I dressed and lived—it’s all still on my Instagram. I don’t think I ever carried a mindset of special privilege,” she added.
According to her, she only got the chance to travel the world and experience luxury after becoming Miss Nepal, not before. She admitted her family did own a house, which meant they never had to worry about paying rent, either in Hetauda or Kathmandu. But she clarified that her parents had to sell ancestral property to provide the best education for her and her brother.
“What I do accept is that we had a house, so we never worried about rent. But it was only after my parents sold ancestral property that my brother and I could receive a quality education,” Shrinkhala explained.
Her remarks come at a time when the “Nepo Baby” trend and unfollow campaign have been widely debated in Nepal’s social media space, especially linked with public frustration over corruption and privilege.
