PM Oli Raises Concerns Over Trade Deal, Calls for Multilateral Revival at SCO Summit
During the SCO summit, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli highlighted concerns over the India-China trade agreement through Nepal and stressed the need to revitalize multilateralism. He also urged for Nepal’s full membership in the organization.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, raised concerns over the India-China agreement on trade passing through Nepalese territory.
At the formal SCO session on Monday, attended by global leaders, Oli pointed out that the “rules-based international order is in crisis” and that multilateralism faces serious challenges. He urged countries to work together on pressing issues like climate change, economic instability, and global conflicts, emphasizing that no nation can remain secure alone.
Oli also called for Nepal’s full membership in the SCO, noting that multilateral platforms often make promises but deliver little. He stressed the importance of revitalizing these platforms to ensure global peace and justice.
He further highlighted that strengthened cooperation through multilateralism is essential for addressing worldwide challenges effectively, and Nepal remains committed to playing a proactive role in these global efforts.
