Parliament Interrogates Home Minister
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal Appears Before Parliamentary Committee to Discuss Peace, Security, and Preparations for Upcoming Elections
27 Kartik, Kathmandu— After the Genz movement, the country's politics is moving in a new direction. Stakeholders are trying to bring the voices from the streets into Parliament. In this context, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal attended a parliamentary committee meeting on Thursday.
The National Assembly's Committee on Federal Strengthening and National Interests had called the meeting to discuss the "state of peace and security and preparations for the upcoming elections" and invited the Home Minister. Till about half an hour before the meeting, it was not certain that Minister Aryal would attend, but he did, a fact considered an achievement by some lawmakers.
This was the first time Minister Aryal appeared before a parliamentary committee. Lawmakers had the opportunity to ask him questions directly, and he responded. He gave a written statement at the beginning, saying that the government faced uncertainty when it came into the office but in the two months since then, largely peace and security have returned.
He also expressed the commitment of his government to holding the election to the House of Representatives on 21 Falgun and handing over power to a democratically elected government. Lawmakers termed this a positive step toward accountability of the executive before Parliament.
