5 people arrested for protesting social media ban
Police arrested 5 members of Youth Congress Nepal, including General Secretary Prabhat Kumar Thakur, during a protest against the social media ban in New Baneshwor. The group called the arrest unfair and demanded immediate release.

Five members of Youth Congress Nepal were arrested in New Baneshwor while protesting against the government’s social media ban. They were demonstrating in front of the Federal Parliament House around 4 pm.
Those arrested include General Secretary Prabhat Kumar Thakur, Treasurer Biraj Aryal, central members Sujan Raj Giri and Dhiraj Sanjel, and member Ashish Sharma.
The organization strongly objected to the arrests, saying their protest was peaceful and within constitutional rights. They warned that silencing voices against the ban is unacceptable.
Youth Congress demanded the unconditional release of its members and urged authorities not to block peaceful protests in the future. Protesters wore black tape marked with a cross over their masks and carried placards reading: “If we can’t post status, mute ministers’ speeches too,” and “Don’t ban, regulate through law.”
