Nepal Did Not Support China’s GSI

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s economic advisor, Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, clarified that Nepal did not support China’s Global Security Initiative (GSI) during PM Oli’s meeting with President Xi Jinping at the SCO Plus Summit.

Dr. Khatiwada emphasized that Nepal strictly follows its Constitution and a non-aligned foreign policy. He confirmed that no agreements or memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed regarding the GSI.

He urged the public to verify facts, noting that bilateral talks focused on constructive areas such as the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), improving connectivity, infrastructure development, health, agriculture, tourism, and information technology.

Dr. Khatiwada added that these discussions are aimed at promoting Nepal’s overall socioeconomic development, and the country remains committed to engaging with partners in ways that benefit its people while maintaining its independent foreign policy.
